Harrow Deck
The Deluxe Harrow Deck
If you have been a reader of mine for some time, you will know that I am a sucker for Tarot and Divination Decks. In this particular box you get a 31 page booklet going over how to preform a harrowing (card reading), the pieces of each card, and card meanings. Page 12 has description and spell information for the spell "Harrowing" for bard/sorcerer/wizard/witch.
The booklet says that this deck can be used in daily readings like a Tarot deck. Unlike most decks with 4 suits this one has 6, one for each of the character traits (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma). Unlike most tarot readings where you use the whole deck- with Harrowing you remove the 9 cards of the ability you have chosen to fit the person's question/request and then have your person pick one of those 9 cards. There is also the description for a 3x3, 9 card spread on page 7 as well.
As well as the Divination cards the set also comes with 3 cards where you can record the character and the card they pulled. There is also a sample card to help along with a card of the 6 abilities, what their symbols look like on the divination cards and the alignment charts.
The card names are quite unique and the artwork is quite colorful for 2d line art. The borders are a nice crimson red and and the backgrounds are a neutral tan to make the colors pop. I particularly liked the art pieces for The Rabbit Prince, The Theater, The Brass Dwarf and The Winged Serpent.
Thoughts From the Fox
I particularly like having the specific deck for each particular ttrpg. The main reason why I purchased this set of physical cards was for a Harrowing One shot where I wanted a physical card to had to the players for each encounter. I think that this deck is good for those who enjoy having physical props, and for those who plan on using the Divination Deck multiple times within in their campaign. If you are only planning on pulling one or two cards you can use the regular card deck trick instead but for me I really enjoyed seeing all of the artwork to go with the characters and situations within the deck.
With the box set up for the most part I thought I liked the little paper divider to keep the 2 stacks separated but after time the glue got more sticky and one of my cards ended up ripping due to the glue holding the paper tab getting stuck to it. The cards otherwise are durable enough and have a gloss finish to them.
This deck was copy right in 2014, and even 10 years later it is still going strong. Unfortunately Paizo no longer has the physical decks available for purchase on their website but for $22.99 you can get it digitally on Fantasy Grounds. To me that is a bit steep of a price but if you are very much into divination or using Harrowing in your Pathfinder game then it may be worth the consideration.
